Who Is Your Ideal Client? – Coaching Business Journey

I have always been fascinated by marketing, but I only took it seriously in 2019, after I decided to officially go on my entrepreneurship journey.

I enjoyed completing different courses and acquiring different certifications.

A common theme among all the courses is, when starting out, you need to define your “ideal client.” Your “customer persona.”

I misunderstood what an “ideal client” meant for a while. The courses made it seem like you needed to invent an imaginary character.

Something like what you hope the person you want to work with will be like.

It’s fine to hope they, let’s say, have a particular occupation, live in a particular country, and perhaps are within a specific age range.

However, things like their dreams, goals, and challenges, etc. should not be assumed.

But a lot of resources make this seem like it’s okay though.

The problem with this approach is, people are different, and people are… people…

The only way to truly know someone’s goals and dreams (if you care and are not a stalker) is by asking them.

There’s something about hearing them say it.

It makes you understand that although this is business, you’re actually touching a life.

And I think we need that empathy to create things that they will actually benefit from right now.

I tried to create different imaginary characters for years, and guess what? I never really found them.

When it seemed like I did, I had a solution to a problem that didn’t bother them.

This taught me that it’s possible to be so passionate about helping people, have an idea of what kind of help they need, and still have them say no to you.

It’s not you.

And it’s not them.

So, take as much time as you need to get to know your ideal client, beyond assumptions.

Then create solutions to problems they tell you they have right now.
